Oregon Ballot Returns 2026

Loading…

Oregon votes entirely by mail. County clerks mail a ballot to every registered voter about two to three weeks before Election Day, and voters send it back by mail or leave it at an official drop box. There is no early in-person voting, so this site tracks returned ballots as counties log them, from the Secretary of State's daily report. Nonaffiliated voters are the largest group, about 37% of registered voters, many of them registered automatically through Oregon Motor Voter. They return ballots at much lower rates than party members.

Source: the Oregon Secretary of State's daily "Unofficial Ballot Returns" PDF (ballots received by county, by day and by party). Past cycles: the SOS statewide daily ballot counts for 2018 to 2024 (data.oregon.gov), the SOS's 2022 daily county report as kept by the Internet Archive, and the SOS statistical summaries of the 2022 and 2024 generals. Registered voters by party come from the SOS October 2026 registration report.

Every county against 2022

Return rate by party

Each party's cumulative share of ballots returned: 2026 so far vs 2022, same day

Share of all ballots returned so far in each morning's SOS report (cumulative, not that day alone), the only place the SOS splits returns by party, against 2022's report from the same number of days before Election Day. "± pts" is 2026 minus 2022: read down a column to see how each party's share is shifting day to day. The margin is Democratic minus Republican in points of all ballots so far, and "Shift" is 2026's margin minus 2022's: D +2.0 means 2 points more Democratic than 2022. Only four 2022 reports survive (14, 4, 1 and 0 days out); ≈ marks a 2022 value estimated on a straight line between two of them.

Who's turning out, per 100,000 registered voters

Ballots returned ÷ registered voters in the same party, per 100,000 of them, so groups of very different size can be compared. Party figures come only from the totals in each morning's SOS report: one point per 2026 report so far, and the four 2022 reports the Internet Archive kept (14, 4, 1 and 0 days before Election Day).
